Funding is always a weird topic to discuss. Everybody needs it but not a lot of people know how to get it. If you're an independent artist, chances are that you are self-funded.
Canadian artists have access to government grants. They can definitely help get things moving but are not very flexible. It's also harder to get as you compete with other applicants and the amount of approved artists is limited.
The other option available is to work with a label. Of course, it isn't available for every artist, and by doing so, you will probably need to give up ownership of your tracks. That said, signing with a label might be the right move if your career has reached a certain level.
Then we come down to a third option, royalty advances. This option is ideal for mid-range artists who need money to finance their upcoming releases. You keep your ownership and you choose the duration of the deal. This is where we come in!
